Season's greetings and an update on FEBS 2021 preparations

A message from the Congress Chair.
And as is said in Ljubljana at this time of year, 'Srečno novo leto!'

Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,

We hope you are well and that you can continue research and teaching in these challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the year draws to a close, we wanted to update you on the 45th FEBS Congress preparations. The Organizing Committee, together with the PCO Dekon and FEBS, are currently continuing efforts to organize the Congress as a physical event in Ljubljana, while monitoring the latest COVID-19 situation in Slovenia and beyond, and guidelines and precautions that may need to be followed. The new registration period is open again and you are welcome to submit your abstract until March 4, 2021. Some new education track topics have been added and for the first time you can submit one education and one research abstract from the same registration for evaluation.

Although the current situation regarding the pandemic is serious in most European and many other countries, the new availability of vaccines brings hope that our way of life will return back to normality by the middle of next year.  Nevertheless, we want to let you know that we are preparing also a backup option to organize the Congress online in case that is needed. We will do our best to ensure that such a virtual congress will keep attractive features of the previous FEBS Congresses, such as excellent scientific presentations, discussions, poster sessions, special sessions and workshops, gathering of young scientists with established colleagues, personal contacts, social events, an exhibition, and more. The final decision on whether the Congress will be organized as a physical or virtual event will be made in early March 2021 and we will keep you informed at the earliest opportunity.

We wish you happy holidays and a healthy and successful 2021, and we are looking forward to seeing you at the 45th FEBS Congress next July!

With kind regards,

Janko Kos
